BMRCL contractors started dumping debris and concrete into the Mylasandra Lake from last April. The lake is situated in the forests of the Uttarahalli-Kengeri Road and is maintained by the state forest department.

The National Green Tribunal, who had very recently initiated a case on its own against the government of Karnataka after seeing the condition of the lakes in Bengaluru, has ordered that dumping of wet or solid waste in and around any lake in Bengaluru is prohibited.

On May 15, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and his cabinet ministers inspected the ongoing cleaning of the Bellandur Lake. During the inspection, Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Minister KJ George said, “Not just the Bellandur Lake, every lake in the city will be purified. The work at all the lakes will be completed in the 4-5 months.”

After the stern warning by the NGT, the KLCDA has decided to crack its whip at any defaulters.
