This medical student had to approach the HC to write his exams

A post graduate student at the MVJ Medical College tampered with a student's attendance. The college management denied him permission to write his exams. The student petitioned to the High Court, which ruled in his favour.

Dr Nagesh M, a student at the MVJ Medical College in Hoskote was in for a shock when he was denied permission to write his exams. The post graduate student, specialising in Radio Diagnosis was told that he didn’t qualify for the written examination as he didn’t have sufficient attendance. However, it came to be known later that the college had meddled with his attendance.

Nagesh had earlier complained to the Rajiv Gandhi University Health Sciences which appointed a two member team to investigate the matter. Following this, the team found out that his attendance had been tweaked. The case was later taken to the High Court.

In its interim order, the High Court directed the college to allow him to write his exam. The court also asked the college to release his mark sheets and relevant documents.

As the case came to be heard at the High Court, it was revealed that Nagesh and the Chairman had a personal grudge. The post graduate student, who secured an admission through the management quota, had a dispute over a financial issue and the college interfered with his attendance.

The court observed, “Manipulation of the attendance register to suit the convenience of the management cannot be ruled out. Issue of attendance cannot be taken as a tool to settle the disputes between the management and the students,” reported Bangalore Mirror.

Justice S Sujatha, on April 21, termed the college’s claim as an allegation against the student. In its judgement, the court said, “Viewed from any angle, the third respondent-college denying the petitioner to appear for PG examination is wholly untenable and cannot be sustained. It is as a classical case of a student suffering in the hands of the management.”
