Bengaluru panics with reports of tremors, explosion; Here is what experts say

According to reports, “heavy explosion” was heard at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Mysore Road and few buildings started shaking.

Panic gripped Bengaluru after residents in some parts of the city felt tremors, heard an “explosion” and ran out of their houses.

According to reports, “heavy explosion” was heard at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Mysore Road and few buildings started shaking.

Many ran out of buildings and the news of earthquake spread like wildfire.

But the experts confirmed that there was no earthquake in Bengaluru. The buildings shook due to rapid movement of clouds, said scientist HSM Prakash, speaking to Suvarna News.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre’s (KSNMDC)  Dr CN Prabhu confirmed that there were no tremors in the city.

“There have been media reports that the people in and around RR Nagar, Bengaluru, heard a big noise possibly due to earthquake this afternoon. However, there are no such tremors has been recorded in the EQ observatory in Tippagondanahalli,” Prabhu told Bangalore Mirror.

The spread of news on social media created panic in Bengaluru. But the people also used the same medium to share updates that there is no earthquake and the expert’s version of the incident.
