Brace yourself! Flood alert issued in Bengaluru following incessant rains

Few of the most affected areas might be east, south and central parts of the city. Satellite images implied possibilities of heavy downpour in the coming days. At 9 pm on Wednesday, over 50 mm of rain was recorded in north Bengaluru and 30 mm was recorded in the city's southern and eastern parts.

The weatherman has sounded an alert in Bengaluru, warning citizens of floods as rain lashed the city late on Wednesday night. It has also been said that the downpour could get heavier at night, leading to flashfloods in various locations in the east, south and central parts of the city. 

Speaking to the Times of India, GS Srinivas Reddy , director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre said, "Based on satellite images, we alerted the BBMP on the possibility of heavy rain and flooding on Wednesday night or Thursday morning."

Reddy further added that as of 9 pm on Wednesday, over 50 mm of rain was recorded in north Bengaluru and 30 mm was recorded in the city's southern and eastern parts. In fact, the Indian Meteorological Department's Palace Road observatory had recorded 12.4 mm rain till 8:30 pm. 

By 9:30 pm, the BBMP control room had already received two complaints of tree fall- one in Chamarajpet, and the other near the railway underpass in Seshadripuram.

MB Rajegowda, agrometeorologist, University of Agricultural Sciences, speaking to the TOI, said, "This is the withdrawal period of the southwestern monsoon. By the third week of October, it' d withdraw from Karnataka. Due to this, there is higher precipitation in the southern and eastern parts of the state, with rain continuing for 3-4 days."
