Synopsis

Prof Maheshchandra Guru of Journalism Department was the brain behind beef eating  programme, claims MP Shobha Karandlaje DV Sadananda Gowda alleges State government’s support to beef eating in Mysuru ‘Let them eat beef at home and die’ says BS Yeddyurappa Charvaka Social and Cultural Trust that organised the programme is served notice and will be blacklisted says Kannada and Culture assistant director.

BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje has written to the Governor to suspend Prof Maheshchandra Guru of Journalism department, Mysuru University, for planning a programme at Kala Mandira where beef was eaten to inaugurate.

She has stated in the letter submitted to Governor on Tuesday that Prof Guru not only planned the programme but also made derogatory remarks against cow slaughter and Central Government. This is a clear violation of the civil services rules and he should be sacked, she has written, reports Kannada Prabha.

Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has alleged that the State Government has supported the beef eating programme at Mysuru. Speaking to newspersons on Tuesday, he said ‘some intellectuals have no intellect in their brains but have it in their bags. And they use it for such purpose’ . He also stated that the Union Government has made rules in view of our culture and heritage. The government cannot intervene with regard to anybody’s food habits, yes, but in the case of the beef eating programme at Mysuru, the State government seems to have supported it, he said.

Reacting strongly to Prof KS Bhagwan, former CM and State BJP president BS Yeddyurappa said “Those who want to eat beef may eat at home and die. Who questions them? But eating at a public function cannot be tolerated and it is unpardonable. Only bird-brained do that sort of things," he said, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, the Charvaka Social and Cultural Trust that organised the programme at Kala Mandira has been served a notice and it will be blacklisted said H Channabasappa, assistant director Kannada and Culture Department. He has written to both director Kannada and Culture and to DC Mysuru D Randeep in this regard, reports Kannada Prabha.
