By stating that "Karnataka elections are more important to me than the Gujarat elections," BJP party supremo Amit Shah has made it clear that the Karnataka elections is a prestigious issue to him. Shah, who is on a three-day visit to the state, made a clarion call to the party workers not to rest till they ensured their party's win in the next Assembly elections.
Shah who is credited with the party's winning march - since the massive win in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014 - gave eight pointers to the state party leaders to carry on the Modi government's "winning streak" in Karnataka.
Among the eight-pointers include, the party leaders won't tolerate dissidence among the leaders. The State BJP unit has been riddled with infighting among two of the senior leaders - party state president BS Yeddyurappa and Leader of the Opposition in the Council KS Eshwarappa. Right from the day when Eshwarappa openly showed his backing to the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade and then eventually becoming its leader, Eshwarappa has always earned the ire of the party president. It may be recalled here that at one of the programmes, the supporters of Yeddyurappa and Eshwarappa even came to blows. The infighting among the leaders was so much that the Central leaders had to intervene and calm the leaders. Although, both the leaders claim "all was fine between them," their cold response to each other was there for everyone to see. This has caused much dent to the party's image.
During his interaction with the party workers, he has reportedly told the party workers that he knows the "ways and means" to bring the party back to the power in the state. Shah who is regarded as the master strategist in the party has reportedly told the leaders not to worry about strategising ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. Shah who is known to pick the "winning horses" has reportedly told the party leaders that he will have a final say in the ticket distribution. Shah has repeatedly said that he will adopt "UP success model" in the Karnataka elections and the party leaders should strive to strengthen the party from the grasssroot level.
While this has infused the party workers with more vigour, it is yet to be seen whether this would translate into the reality when the Karnataka goes to polls in the early 2018.
