
The two signal free corridors under construction on Old Madras Road and Old Airport Road will be completed in 6 months announced Bengaluru Urban Development Minister K J George. On Tuesday the Minister and Mayor G Padmavathi along with senior officials of BBMP visited the various underpass and flyovers to inspect the constructions. Speaking to newspersons after the inspection the Minister said all civil works with regard to the 2 signal free corridors will be completed within 6 months, as assured by the officials. The commuters on Old Madras Road and Old Airport Road will be free of traffic woes.
For the construction of signal free corridors, lands from HAL, NAL and some private lands have been acquired by giving Transfer of Development Rights (TDR). The officials are instructed to complete the rest of the processing pending at the earliest, he said.
The projects under constructions that the Minister inspected include: underpass at the wind tunnel junction near ISRO gate on Old Airport Road, Suranjandas junction to Indiranagar 100 feet road underpass, and Kundalahalli junction underpass. The projects are being implemented at Rs 19 crores each. The Hope Farm junction underpass at a cost of Rs 13 crore and the Big Bazar junction underpass at an expense of Rs 27 crores are underway. All the 5 projects have been contracted to RNS Infrastructures Construction Company. All the 5 projects will be completed in next 6 months and will be open for public, he said.
The Minister also inspected the Rs 40 crore flyover at Hoodi junction and instructed the officials to complete it within one year. A flyover and a underpass are also planned at old NGRF junction on Old Madras Road at an estimated Rs 70 crores will be taken up shortly. Totally the civil works amounts to RS 216 crores.
During the Minister’s inspection, public requested him to get the road near the Vibgyor School to be developed. Local Palike member Shweta Jayakumar informed that 4 private landowners have filed cases and the court has given a stay order with regard to the 12 km road development. The Minister instructed the officials to take legal action to release the stay order and give TDR. Mayor G padmavathi, deputy Mayor Anand, legislator S Raghu and commissioner Manjunath Prasad were present on the occasion.
