
In a horrifying accident at the Haveri city bus stand this morning, a state transport bus lost control and rammed into a crowd of people waiting on the platform. The incident, reportedly caused by over-speeding and driver negligence, left four people seriously injured. Tragically, a two-year-old boy, critically hurt in the accident, later succumbed to his injuries, sparking scenes of grief and despair at the hospital.
The accident occurred around 7 am at the busy Haveri central bus stand. Many passengers were waiting for buses bound for Savanur. As the bus approached and people moved forward to check the destination board, the driver reportedly lost control. The speeding vehicle ploughed directly into the waiting crowd, causing chaos and panic.
Among the injured was two-year-old Hazrat Ali, a resident of Savanur town, who was with his parents when the bus struck him. Critically injured, the child was rushed from Haveri District Hospital to KIMS in Hubballi for advanced medical care. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, Hazrat Ali could not be saved. His parents and relatives were left inconsolable, mourning the sudden and tragic loss of their child.
In addition to Hazrat Ali, three other individuals sustained serious injuries. They have been identified as Vasudev (44), Harsha (6), and Kavyanjali (39), all residents of Bankapur town. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Haveri District Hospital. Locals at the scene expressed outrage, blaming the driver’s recklessness and lack of caution in such a crowded area.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the bus driving onto the platform and striking the crowd, emphasising the severity of the accident and highlighting the urgent need for stricter safety measures at busy bus stands.
Haveri police visited the site and have registered a case against the bus driver. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident. The incident has raised serious concerns among the public regarding driver negligence, over-speeding, and passenger safety in crowded areas. Calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations have intensified following this tragic event.
