Anekal farmers get land records after 70 years of uncertainty

Synopsis

Revenue records of eight Anekal villages, incorrectly maintained under Hosur in Tamil Nadu since 1956, have been transferred to Karnataka. The move is expected to benefit around 3,000 farmers by simplifying land mutations and access to revenue services.

In a major relief for farmers in Anekal taluk, revenue records belonging to eight villages that had been incorrectly maintained under Hosur in Tamil Nadu since 1956 have finally been transferred to Karnataka. The long-pending issue had prevented several farmers from updating their land ownership records and completing mutation processes. The correction is expected to bring greater clarity to land records and make it easier for around 3,000 farmers to access revenue services and pursue development activities.

Revenue Records Corrected After Decades

ADLR Madan C shared the development during an official document distribution programme in Marasur village.

He explained that following the linguistic reorganisation of states, the eight villages became part of the then Mysore State. However, an important document known as the Akar Bandh, which serves as a master land register, was not available.

As a result, authorities were unable to update the farmers' Pahani, or land ownership records, creating difficulties for decades.

"The land came to us, but a key document called the 'Akar Bandh', which is like a master land register, was missing. Because of this, we couldn't update the farmers' 'Pahani' or land ownership records. Now, with new technology, we've fixed everything," Madan C said.

Year-Long Effort By Over 50 Staff

Anekal Tahsildar Shashidhar Madyal said the process involved extensive work by revenue and survey officials.

"A dedicated team of over 50 skilled staff worked continuously for a whole year to make this happen. It's the result of their continuous effort," he said.

He added that the correction would allow farmers to complete the mutation of their land records more easily and focus on further development.

Relief For Around 3,000 Farmers

Anekal MLA B Shivanna, who had raised the issue in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, said the correction fulfilled a long-standing demand of farmers in the region.

He said the move would benefit around 3,000 farmers and thanked senior officials Manjunath, Dr Venkatesh and Nisar Ahmed for their guidance and support during the process.

A total of 270 records were reconstructed as part of the exercise.

"This has been a long-pending wish for everyone here," Shivanna said.

Taluk Guarantee Committee President Purushottam, Inspector Chandrappa and officials from the survey and revenue departments were also present during the document distribution programme.

The transfer and reconstruction of the records are expected to bring much-needed clarity to land ownership in the eight villages and simplify access to revenue-related services for local farmers.
