A tragic fire broke out at the My EV electric bike showroom on Rajkumar Road in Bengaluru's Rajajinagar on Monday evening, leaving the area in panic. The blaze, believed to have been caused by a short circuit in one of the electric bikes, led to the unfortunate death of a young woman working at the showroom.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Priya, was working as a receptionist at the time of the incident. While all the other staff members had managed to escape the building, Priya was trapped inside and was severely burnt before the fire brigade could arrive. Despite efforts by the firefighters, Priya succumbed to the injuries and was later taken to Victoria Hospital.
The fire, which broke out around 5:30 PM, was reported to have started in the showroom’s electric bike section, likely due to a short circuit in one of the bike batteries. The situation was aggravated by the presence of multiple bikes in the showroom, heightening the risk of further explosions or damage. Firefighters were quick to respond, with two fire engines reaching the scene to tackle the blaze.
Emergency services worked tirelessly to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas. The Rajajinagar police also arrived on-site, cordoning off the area to keep the public at a safe distance. Authorities have urged people to avoid the vicinity as the situation is still under control.
The fire is believed to have been triggered by an electric bike's faulty battery, which could have sparked the devastating blaze. Investigations are underway to confirm the exact cause, and fire officials are also concerned about the risk of another explosion from the remaining electric bikes inside the showroom.
Meanwhile, a man, who had visited the showroom earlier to collect his newly serviced bike, was shocked to witness the fire. He had just left the showroom a day before the incident, but upon returning, he found the place engulfed in flames.
At present, local authorities are working to ensure the safety of the area and provide support to the affected individuals. Emergency operations are still ongoing, with personnel combing through the wreckage to determine if any other individuals were trapped inside. There are suspicions of another baby being trapped inside the showroom.
