Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have finally caught a thief who had a unique way of operating: he would steal gold jewellery from wedding halls by pretending to be a guest. The Sampigehalli station police arrested the man, who is a serial offender.
The arrested person is H.K. Babu, a resident of Peenya 2nd Stage, who is famously known in criminal circles as 'Pulsar Babu'. Police have recovered gold jewellery worth ₹5.5 lakh from him.
The police started looking for him after a recent incident. A few days ago, at a wedding in a kalyana mantapa on Thanisandra Main Road, Babu approached a seven-year-old girl. He pretended to talk to her and then coolly walked away with her gold chain. This complaint got the police on his trail, and they used technical intelligence to track him down.

Police say Babu is a seasoned criminal, originally from Honnanayakanahalli village in Channapatna taluk. He is quite infamous for this specific type of theft at weddings. In fact, he already has 8 cases registered against him in different police stations across the city.
His method was simple but effective. He would dress up and walk into weddings like any other guest. Then, he would spot children playing around, go up to them, and pretend to pamper them. While everyone was distracted, he would quickly remove their gold ornaments. Police also said he would sometimes sneak into the bride and groom's rooms and steal any cash or valuables he could find.
Giving details of one such case, the police mentioned that on February 8, at the EBC Kalyana Mantapa on Thanisandra Main Road, Babu stole from a seven-year-old girl. He distracted her and made off with her necklace and bangles, which weighed a total of 70 grams.
