Game 5 of the 2022-23 ISL was held on Tuesday between Jamshedpur FC and Odisha FC, as the latter narrowed past 3-2. It has risen to the second spot in the table, while the former is placed eighth.

Odisha FC netted a couple of late goals, sealing a 3-2 triumph over last year’s Indian Super League (ISL) league winners Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Tuesday. Daniel Chukwu and Boris Singh gave the hosts a two-goal lead within the opening ten minutes of the match. Diego Mauricio then scored a brace, which included the winner, and substitute Isaac Chhakchhuak was on the scoresheet, grabbing the three points for the Juggernauts. Torrential rain delayed the kick-off but didn’t dampen JFC’s spirits, as it got its nose ahead in just three minutes. Thoiba Singh blocked Ricky Lallawmawma’s low cross from the left flank, but the rebound fell to Chukwu before the Nigerian plundered the ball with his left foot into the net.

In the tenth minute, The Red Miners set a two-goal protector. Yet again, Lallawmawma played a low cross from the left flank. Boris Singh managed to get on the end of it and tapped it in at the far post. The Juggernauts lessened the debt seven minutes later. Raynier Fernandes rolled the ball towards Diego Mauricio near the edge of the box. The Brazilian was given enough space before curling and tucking his action inside the far post.

Farukh Choudhary raced down the left flank, and his cross landed on Wellington Priori. Amrinder Singh brilliantly blocked the Brazilian’s shot. At the other end, minutes later, Jerry Mawihmingthanga tiptoed inside the box from the right, taking the ball on his left foot and was hairs away from curling it into the top-left corner.

In the 67th minute, Pedro Martin was in a one-on-one situation with TP Rehenesh as the JFC defence scoured for an offside flag. The Spanish substitute saw his step being saved gaily by the JFC keeper. The match was then tied with a couple of minutes in the regulation time remaining. OFC substitutes Isak Vanlalruatfela and Isaac Chhakchhuak integrated colourfully on the right. Vanlalruatfela pulled it back for Chhakchhuak, who hit the ball into the back of the net.

The comeback was made in second-half stoppage time. Vanlalruatfela was involved again as the 21-year-old picked out Mauricio with an inch-perfect ball before the latter blasted in his second and the OFC winner. The Juggernauts and The Red Miners will transit to the West coast on specific dates to face Mumbai City FC in their next fixtures. The Islanders host OFC on Saturday and will welcome JFC on October 22.
