
Kolkata: A youth from Nimta, was an employee at a data research centre. He lost his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His luxurious lifestyle was jeopardized because of his job loss. Therefore, he planned his own fake kidnap to extract money from his family. But he couldn’t succeed.
Ronit De, accused, is a resident of Olaichondi Tola, Nimta, North 24 Parganas. Reports state Ronit had affairs with multiple women and had always led a luxurious life. The job loss proved to be costly, which stopped him from all these activities. In order to gain money, he planned to extract money from his father, who served the government and had recently retired. He disappeared from his home as per his plan and kept calling his home to extract the amount, sometimes demanding Rs 2 lakh, and sometimes Rs 5 lakh.

The news of their son getting kidnapped haunted the family members, which led them to lodge a complaint at Nimta Police Station. The number which Ronit used to call from in order to ask for money was tracked and found to be in Rajarhat, Kolkata. Following the clue, police finally arrested Ronit from a hotel in Rajarhat, where he was found amongst multiple women. This incident has left the family in despair.
