A simple game of UNO has given billionaire businessman and Vedanta Resources chairman Anil Agarwal an unusual way to look at life. In a post on X, Agarwal shared how the popular card game helped him see everyday choices, challenges and opportunities differently. He said a young member of his team introduced him to UNO a few days ago, and what began as a casual game soon became a source of life lessons.

“A simple game, colourful cards… yet it explained life in a new way. Every card felt like a small lesson,” Agarwal wrote.

He connected three UNO cards — Skip, Reverse and Wild — with different ways of dealing with situations in life.

For Agarwal, the Skip Card represents situations that may not deserve a person's time or energy. He said not every obstacle or argument needs a response and that learning to let go can help life move forward.

“Some things are best ignored, and life moves forward much more smoothly when you learn to let go,” he wrote.

Reverse Card: Change Direction When Needed

Agarwal drew another comparison from the Reverse Card, which changes the direction of play in UNO. He said the card reminded him that people can also change course when circumstances are not moving in their favour.

“The Reverse Card felt like proof that when life is not moving in your direction, you can still change its course. Sometimes, one strong decision is enough to turn the situation around,” he wrote.

Why Agarwal Called the Wild Card the Best

The Wild Card carried the biggest lesson for Agarwal. He described it as the “best of them all” and compared it with an individual's unique quality, strength or talent.

“I believe each of us has a wild card in life. A quality, a strength, or a gift that makes us different from everyone else. If you learn to recognise it and use it at the right time, it can take you a very long way,” he said.

Agarwal summed up his broader message by comparing thoughtful decisions and small opportunities with the way momentum builds in life.

“Life works much the same way. When we make thoughtful moves and turn small opportunities into momentum, success gradually is closer to us,” he wrote.
