WHO chief Ghebreyesus thanks PM Modi for commitment, solidarity in fight against COVID-19 pandemic

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has thanked PM Narendra Modi after he said that India's vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting the COVID-19 crisis.

New Delhi: Director General of World Health Organisation Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his speech at the UN General Assembly.

In a tweet, the WHO DG wrote, "Thank you for your commitment to solidarity, 🇮🇳 Prime Minister @narendramodi. Only together, by mobilizing our forces and resources jointly for the common good, can we end the #COVID19 pandemic. #UNGA  @PMOIndia @CDMissionIndia @IndiaUNNewYork."

This year, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the Prime Minister's speech at the General Assembly session was a pre-recorded broadcast.

In 2020, the theme of the 75th UNGA is COVID-19 related: “The future we want, the United Nations we need, reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism – confronting the COVID-19 through effective multilateral action”.

Ideals of India, UN Shared: PM

“When we were strong, we were never a threat to the world, when we were weak, we never became a burden. Ideals on which the UN was founded, and India's very own fundamental philosophy have much in common. Within the halls of the UN, one has often heard the words, the world is one family. We treat the whole world as a family,” PM Modi said.

“India sent its brave soldiers to about 15 countries to keep peace. India has lost the maximum number of its soldiers in keeping peace. Every Indian, aspires for India's expanded role in the UN, seeing India's contributions towards it.”
