Coronavirus: West Bengal teacher becomes first person to participate in human trials for vaccine

A 30-year old teacher, Chiranjit Dhibar from West Bengal Durgapur, who is an RSS worker has become the first person to participate in the human trials of the COVID-19 vaccine in India. Dhibar willingly came forward to participate in the clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine which is being developed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech.  

Kolkata: Chiranjit Dhibar, a 30-year-old teacher from West Bengal's Durgapur, has become the first person to participate in the clinical trials of the coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine was applied experimentally to his body in two phases. Chiranjit Dhiwar was allowed to return home as there were no side effects of the vaccine.

Chiranjit Dhivar is a resident of Durgapur. He was summoned by the Indian Council of Medical Research. Chiranjit was inspired by the principles of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and has decided to donate his body to the country for the clinical trials of coronavirus vaccine. On April 26, he sent an e-mail to the Indian Council of Medical Research asking if he could volunteer. Listening to his request, ICMR selected him for the test.

On July 29 and August 12, the experimental vaccine was administered to the body of Chiranjit Dhibar. Many tests were conducted after he was given the vaccine. Chiranjit was allowed to return home as there were no side effects.

 Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech is developing a possible COVID vaccine in the country with ICMR. The Union Health Minister indicated that the use of COVID vaccine may start in the first quarter of 2021.

Chiranjit’s colleagues at Kankasar Manikara Primary School are happy with the great initiative taken by him. Chiranjit's father Tapankumar Dhiwar is a Durgapur steel factory worker and his mother Pratima Devi is a housewife. His parents are proud of their son's decision.

Chiranjit Dhivar has to go to Bhubaneswar again for a physical examination.
