Plasma therapy has been started for veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee who is currently in intensive care from complications due to Covid-19. Top government doctors were deputed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the plasma therapy procedure for Soumitra Chatterjee.
Kolkata: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who is battling with COVID-19 at Belle Vue Hospital Kolkata, has been given convalescent plasma therapy twice. Though his condition was stable on Sunday (October 11), his condition got a bit critical on Sunday afternoon.
The actor, who tested positive for coronavirus on October 5, and was admitted to the hospital on October 6, was doing well. However, on Friday (October 9) afternoon, his condition deteriorated. He was put on oxygen support, his blood pressure started fluctuating and his oxygen level dropped. He was also disoriented and restless, and CT scan has been done.

On Saturday (October 9), Soumitra’s daughter Poulomi Bose said her father is suffering from COVID encephalopathy.
Top government doctors were deputed by chief minister Mamata Banerjee for the plasma therapy procedure for Mr Soumitra Chatterjee.
Dr Makhanlal Shah heads the department, surgery, SSKM, the state's premier post-graduate hospital, and Dr Yogiraj Ray is leading the plasma therapy intervention in the state.

Hospital authorities said, "We are grateful to Chief minister Mamata Banerjee for sending the doctors. They have approved the line of treatment.”
Thanking well-wishers for their concern, Soumitra Chatterjee’s daughter said, "All due care is being taken on this count. There has been no deterioration on account of his co-morbidities, including a high PSA count, pneumonia tendencies and compromised lungs, which is a good sign."
