Uttarakhand minister's wife tests positive for COVID-19; 42 others quarantined

An Uttarakhand minister and 41 others living at his official residence in Dehradun have been quarantined after his wife tested positive for coronavirus.
 


Dehradun: Uttarakhand tourism minister Satpal Maharaj's wife and former minister Amrita Rawat has tested positive for COVID-19.

Maharaj, who had attended a meeting of the state Cabinet on Friday last, and the rest of the family have been quarantined at their residence in the city.

Rawat's swab sample report confirming that she is COVID-19 positive arrived from a private lab late Saturday evening, the minister's OSD Abhishek Sharma said.

She was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh on Sunday and has been kept in isolation, hospital PRO, Harish Thapliyal, said.

Amrita Rawat was a minister in the Harish Rawat government.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand has risen to 749, with 33 more people testing positive.

Even as the fourth phase of the lockdown ends in India today and a phased exit begins from June 1, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 182,143 while the death toll has gone up to 5,164, according to figures released this morning by the Ministry of Health. In the past 24 hours, 8,380 new cases and 193 deaths were reported. The health ministry said that there were 89,995 active cases in the country while 86,983 have recovered.
