Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur to be renamed as Kush Bhawanpur: Reports

If the petition is approved, Sultanpur will be the third district the Yogi Adityanath administration changed, following Faizabad, which was renamed Ayodhya, and Allahabad, which was renamed Prayagraj.

Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath administration plans to rename Sultanpur as 'Kush Bhawanpur' after Lord Ram's son's name is Kush. As per various media reports,  a senior official of the Board of Revenue said a proposal to that effect has been made to the state administration, which the state cabinet will approve. Devmani Dwivedi, a BJP MLA from Lambhua (Sultanpur), addressed the matter in the Assembly. The Sultanpur district magistrate and Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner filed a request to the state government and Board of Revenue to rename the district Kush Bhawanpur, citing Sultanpur's historical heritage in the gazetteer.

Previously, in March 2019, then-Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik requested that Sultanpur district be renamed Kush Bhawanpur in a letter to Yogi Adityanath.
Naik reported meeting a Sultanpur delegation in his letter. The group presented him with a book on Sultanpur's history and asked that the district be renamed Kush Bhawanpur in order to "restore its previous splendour."

Earlier this month, the Aligarh Zila Panchayat approved a resolution proposing that Aligarh be renamed Harigarh. Meanwhile, the Mainpuri Zila Panchayat voted to rename the town Mayan Nagar in honour of Sage Mayan, who created modern-day Mainpuri. The West Uttar Pradesh Bajrang Dal has demanded that Deoband, home to a prominent Islamic institution, be renamed Devvrand in a letter to UP Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon.
