Lucknow: In a bizarre case, a couple married for nine days, attempted suicide over a trivial issue of cooking meat at home.

While the wife died, the husband is battling for life. The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh.

The victims were identified as 19-year-old Reshma and Gurudayal, 22, residents of Lakhimpur and the incident was reported on Monday (June 22).

According to police, Reshma was a pure vegetarian and her husband a non-vegetarian. On that fateful night, Reshma picked up a fight after her husband had got meat and asked her to cook.

The shocked wife refused to cook and hence he asked his mother to cook. As tempers flared over the issue, Reshma took poison and soon her husband too consumed the same.

Seeing the couple struggling to breathe, Gurudayal’s father Shivnath took them to a hospital. However, Reshma succumbed while her husband is fighting for life.
