The Centre has been regularly monitoring the situation in Delhi after a huge spike in COVID-19 cases in the national capital
New Delhi: Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday (June 24) wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah, seeking his intervention in scrapping the system requiring every COVID-19 patient to visit a government-run centre for clinical assessment.
Addressing an online media briefing, Sisodia said he had written to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Tuesday on the same issue, but the AAP government was yet to receive a response from the LG's office.
“I had requested Lt Governor (Anil Baijal) to change the rule under which every COVID-19 patient is required to visit a quarantine centre for assessment,” Sisodia told reporters. “It has been two days, but I haven’t received any reply. This new system has created pressure on administration. Today, I have written to Union home minister Amit Shah requesting him to do away with this system as it will create chaos.”
Sisodia added that far from being a political fight about a “Kejriwal model versus Amit Shah model”, this was an effort to implement a system in which people do not face problems.
“This is not a fight between Amit Shah’s model and Kejriwal’s model. We should implement a system in which people don’t face problems,” he said on Wednesday. The deputy chief minister said people were facing a lot of problems due to the new system and it should be scrapped immediately.
He said the Union home minister himself was overseeing measures being taken to deal with the COVID-19 situation.
The previous system should be implemented wherein teams of the district administration visited the house of an infected person for clinical assessment, Sisodia said.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had also urged the Centre and Baijal to restore the old system, saying the home isolation plan has been working very well.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded its largest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases so far with 3,947 people testing positive.
