A 17-year-old boy died in a road accident in Lucknow on Sunday, March 15, after losing control of his motorcycle during what police suspect may have been a street racing incident. The teenager, identified as Naitik Kumar, was riding a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 along with a group of bikers. The riders were reportedly heading towards Janeshwar Mishra Park when the accident occurred near Gate number 5 of the park. Police said the incident took place within seconds after the teenager lost control of the motorcycle.
According to police reports quoted by NDTV, Kumar allegedly rode over an object lying on the road. Soon after that, he lost control of the motorcycle during the racing stunt. His bike then crashed into a Honda Activa scooter travelling ahead of him. After the impact, Kumar was thrown off the motorcycle and fell onto the road divider.
He suffered serious head injuries in the fall.
The scooter skidded towards the right side of the road and collided with another motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja, which was moving in the high-speed lane at the time.
The accident was partly captured on video by a 360-degree action camera mounted on the mirror of the Kawasaki Ninja. According to reports, the rider of the Ninja was adjusting the camera when the crash happened. The device recorded the sequence of events during the accident.
Police said the footage may help investigators understand how the crash unfolded.
Reports suggest the Kawasaki Ninja was travelling at around 90 kilometres per hour when the collision took place. The impact caused the Ninja motorcycle to hit the road divider, although the rider managed to remain on the bike.
The viral video footage also showed another biker riding alongside the Ninja. That rider reportedly fell after coming into contact with the Honda Activa scooter during the chain collision.
The rider of the Activa scooter, identified as Aditya Srivastava, sustained minor injuries in the accident. Another biker, Krishna Singh, who was also involved in the incident, suffered minor injuries as well.
Both were treated for their injuries and are reported to be stable. Family declines post mortem examination
Police said Naitik Kumar died due to severe injuries suffered during the crash. Following the incident, the teenager’s family declined a post mortem examination. They later took his body to their ancestral village in Barabanki for the final rites.
Authorities said they are continuing their investigation into the accident.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and analysing the action camera recording to determine the exact cause of the crash. Officials said further action will be taken after the investigation clarifies whether street racing or other factors led to the accident.
