This MP cop is a hero for over 100 children; Here's why

Synopsis

The head constable ran with the bomb to a deserted place to save the children and the residents in the area it was discovered. He followed the standard procedures after taking the bomb to a safe zone. Police officials believe that the bomb was from an army range nearby and was accidentally placed by a villager looking for exploded bombs.

It would have been another day of tragedy had it not been for this MP police constable who saved over 100 children and other residents from an unexploded bomb. 40-year-old head constable Abhishek Patel relied on his reflexes immediately after he received information about an unexploded bomb in a school vicinity. He carried the 10-kilo bomb on his shoulders and ran to a an uninhabited place so that it does not lead to loss of lives.

After having taken the bomb to a safe place, he followed the routine protocol of calling his seniors and informing them about the incident, apart from informing the bomb disposal squad. Meanwhile, speaking to the DNA, Satyendra Shukla, SP Sagar district SAID, "Head Constable Abhishek Patel was on Police Control Van duty when he got a call about a bomb in the backyard of a school in Chitora. He immediately rushed to the spot. He picked up the bomb and ran with it as fast as he could. He disposed it at a place far away from the village."

While Patel's seniors are lauding him for his bravery, they are not really happy about the way he had handled the matter. The SP further said, "He should have first informed the bomb disposal squad and followed the proper drill. There was a lot of risk involved in taking the bomb away with bare hands."

Speaking about his honest intentions, Patel said, "My only objective was to carry the bomb as far away as possible from the school and the residential area." Police officials believe that the bomb was from an army range nearby and was accidentally placed by a villager looking for exploded bombs. Usually, villagers look for such bombs so that they can extract metal from them and sell in the market. In this process, the villager may have come across this bomb and had placed it in the school yard after realising that it was useless for him.

The incident took place in Chitora village of Sagar district, which is nearly 170 kilometers from Bhopal.

The constable has also won applause from veteran film actor Anupam Kher, who Tweeted:
