Supreme Court's verdict that individual privacy is a Fundamental Right according to the Indian Constitution has been welcomed by leaders across India.The nine-member bench ruled on the privacy right following petitions challenging the decision making Aadhaar compulsory for all financial transactions and availing various benefits of welfare schemes.

The petitioners had stated that making Aadhaar compulsory was not safe and not secure. It, in fact, was infringing on the privacy of people.

The bench, led by Chief Justice JS Khehar also comprised of Justices J Chelameswar, SA Bobde, RK Agrawal, Rohinton Nariman, AM Sapre, DY Chandrachud, Sanjay Kishan Kaul and S Abdul Nazeer.

Former Karnataka high court judge Justice KS Puttaswamy is one of the petitioners in this case. MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar was the most vocal politician involved in actively making sure that Right to Privacy is the Fundamental Right.
