
Bengaluru: Thousands of passengers bound to their hometowns thronged metro station to reach the bus and railway station in Majestic on Friday and Satudray, resulting in a spike in ridership in the metro.
On Friday, the ridership rose to 4.83 lakh in both purple and green lines of metro in Bengaluru. BMRCL stated that on Friday, at least 2.63 lakh passengers boarded the Purple Line that commutes between Baiyappanahalli and Mysuru Road and 2.19 lakh on Green line that spans Yelachenahalli and Nagasandra.
The highest record of ridership was 4.64 lakh on October 4, during Dussehra celebrations.
Reports claim that the number of people boarding the metro train increased considerably on Friday at 10 PM. Most of the people alighted at Kempegowda and Yeshwanthpur stations.
The revenue collected on Friday alone was Rs 1.12 crore.
It is said that the six-coach trains helped ease the congestion.
Currently, there are four six-coach trains on the Green Line. The BMRCL has decided to include two more six-coach metro trains. BMRCL operates 18 six-coach trains on the Purple Line.
