Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for harassing a woman in Hyderabad’s Alkapur Township while she was carrying her two-year-old child home from a playschool. CCTV footage showed the accused approaching the woman from behind and lifting her dress before fleeing. The video went viral online and sparked outrage over women’s safety.

Police have arrested an accused in Telangana woman's harassment case which went viral after CCTV footage surfaced online on May 19. The disturbing incident from Hyderabad's Alkapur Township came to light after CCTV footage showed the woman being harassed while carrying her two-year-old child. Police officials from Narsingi police station on Saturday arrested 26-year-old man, identified as Vadde Nagaraju. Nagaraju is a resident of Puppalaguda and originally from Mahbubnagar district.

 

 

 

The incident gained attention after the CCTV video circulated widely on social media, raising fresh concerns about women’s safety in residential areas.

Incident happened near playschool

According to police, the incident took place on May 14 at around 1.30 pm. The woman had gone to pick up her young child from a nearby playschool in Alkapur Township.

Officials said the woman was returning home while carrying the child when the accused allegedly followed her from behind. Police said Nagaraju allegedly lifted the woman’s dress and immediately ran away from the spot. The woman reportedly raised an alarm and turned around to chase him, but he managed to escape.

CCTV video went viral online

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near Pranati Easha Apartment on Road No. 4 in Alkapuri Township in the Manikonda area.

The footage reportedly shows the woman walking with the child when a young man approaches her from behind, allegedly misbehaves with her and quickly flees.

After the video appeared online, many social media users expressed shock and anger. Several people demanded quick police action and stricter safety measures in residential localities.

The video also drew the attention of police authorities, who began examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

Police formed teams to trace accused

Based on the woman’s complaint filed on May 19, Narsingi police registered a case under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police then formed special teams to identify and trace the accused.

After several days of investigation, officers arrested Nagaraju on Saturday. Officials said the accused does not have any previous criminal record and was not earlier involved in similar offences.

Many residents expressed concern after the incident and said such behaviour creates fear among women living in the area.

Police said further investigation into the case is continuing.
