Suvendu Adhikari is still in party: TMC MP Sougata Roy

Synopsis

Senior TMC MP Sougata Roy held a meeting with Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday (November 24). After the meeting, Saugata Roy said, “Suvendu Adhikari is still in the party. He has not said anything different. I will not divulge what discussion took place between me and Adhikari.”  

Senior TMC MP Sougata Roy, who has been tasked with the job of holding talks with Suvendu Adhikari, met the minister on Tuesday (November 24) and held a long discussion.

Suvendu Adhikari, one of the trusted leaders of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, turned rebel against his own party by organising his own rallies in the last few weeks.

Not only Adhikari, several other Trinamool leaders including Rabindranath Bhattacharjee who played a key role in Banerjee's farmers movement in Singur a decade ago have expressed dissent publicly.

After Sougata Roy held a meeting with Suvendu Adhikari, the TMC MP said, “Suvendu Adhikari is still in the party. He has not said anything different. I will not divulge what discussion took place between me and Adhikari.”

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is observing the development within the Trinamool, is ready to welcome any rebel leader from the ruling party.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, “Anybody who is not happy in Trinamool can come to our party. We will give fresh air to breathe.”

Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are due in April-May next year.
