School building to be demolished following snakebite incident that left 9-year-old dead

Shahla was bitten by a snake in her classroom in Kerala on Nov 20. The girl informed the class teacher after she observed physical difficulties and injury marks. Soon the student's parents rushed her to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead. The Department of Education has decided that the school building will be demolished.  

Thiruvananthapuram: The Department of Education announced that the school building, including the class in which Shahla was bitten by the snake, would be demolished. The state government said it would take action against the Bathery Government Sarvajana School authorities regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the primary teacher was suspended by the deputy director, education, for the lapse. The education minister of the state has also ordered a detailed probe into the incident. The health minister too, has suspended the doctor of the Sulthan Bathery Taluk hospital, where the girl was taken for treatment, for initially failing to detect the snake bite.

It also extended the leave for the UP section to one week. Meanwhile, classes for the high school section and Higher secondary section will resume on Tuesday.

According to sources, the girl, Shahla, was bitten by a snake in her classroom. After the girl observed physical difficulties and injury marks, she informed the class teacher. Soon the student's parents rushed her to a nearby hospital. The school management said, Shahla was sitting close to the wall and was bitten by a snake when she inserted her foot into a hole in the wall.

On her way to a government hospital (medical college), Shahla began to suffocate and was rushed to a private hospital. Doctors confirmed that it was a snakebite. However, they failed to save the girl.
