Pretending to be a businesswoman, a woman from Bengaluru has allegedly cheated a businessman from Andhra Pradesh and placed an order for 234 sarees, without paying for them.
Bengaluru: A woman in Bengaluru allegedly cheated a businessman and escaped without paying for 234 sarees.
The accused was identified as H Shashikala. The woman is a resident of Indiranagar. The victim was identified as Pendama Venkateshwaralu, a resident of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.
The 45-year-old woman turned out to be a habitual offender who targeted businessmen on the pretext of supplying sarees.
In the last week of September, Shashikala contacted Pendama and convinced him that she was a businesswoman.

The woman contacted Pendama on the phone and placed an order for 234 sarees. On September 29, Pendama took the sarees to Bengaluru and met Shashikala at a flat near Sampigehalli.
After receiving the sarees, the woman gave three cheques worth Rs 7 lakh to Pendama. The next day, the woman paid Rs 10 lakh in cash to Pendama and took back the cheques, promising to pay the money in cash to him the same night.
However, later, the woman ended all contact with Pendama. On inquiring about the woman, Pendama learned that the flat had been taken for rent for 2 days and she did not own the flat.
Shashikala managed to escape after duping Pendama of Rs 8.2 lakh. She was arrested by the police after the Andhra businessman approached them and lodged a complaint.
The police also seized 120 sarees from the accused. According to an officer, the woman had already sold the remaining sarees.
