Thiruvananthapuram: The main accused who killed a youth using an earthmover has surrendered before police.
The accused is identified as Charupara Saju, the owner of the JCB. It is reported that Saju killed Sangeeth because he resisted illegal mining in his compound at Kattakada, Thiruvanathapuram.
Saju has been booked by the police along with six others for the murder of the 36-year-old Sangeeth Balan.
Police also had already taken three other accused into custody. They are Anish and Lal Kumar. Vijin, who was reportedly operating the JCB, was arrested on January 24.
Kattakada Police have registered a case against the six persons involved in the incident. The police will also conduct a forensic examination to uncover details of how Sangeeth was killed with an earthmover.
January 24:
The sand mafia reportedly went to Sangeeth's house in his absence. Sangeeth became aware of this development when his wife called him and informed him of the trespasser.
He rushed home immediately and attempted to block the earthmover and entered into an argument with the mafia and his men. The accused allegedly hit Sangeeth with the mechanical arm of the earthmover in front of his family.
Sangeeth was taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead-on-arrival.
The family of the deceased have accused the police of negligence in dealing with the case of Sangeeth, who had informed them about the sand mafia gang.
