Sabarimala: Bindu Ammini to visit shrine on January 2

Bindu Ammini was attacked with pepper spray while she was on her way to the shrine along with Pune-based activist Trupti Desai. The attacker was nabbed and was identified as Kannur native Sreenath Padmanabhan. 

Pathanamthitta: Bindu Ammini, one of the two women who had managed to enter the Sabarimala temple on January 2, 2019, said she would be visiting the Sabarimala shrine of Kerala on January 2, 2020. She added that she would move the Supreme Court for protection as she expects no protection from Kerala Police. 

She added that various people from different parts of the country would seek darshan with her on January 2. 

On November 26, Bindu Ammini was attacked with pepper spray while she was on her way to the shrine along with Pune-based activist Trupti Desai. The attacker was nabbed and was identified as Kannur native Sreenath Padmanabhan. A case has been booked against him too. 

The Supreme Court on November 14 referred the Sabarimala case to a larger bench after reviewing petitions seeking a rethink of the apex court’s 2018 judgment that allowed women between the ages of 10 to 50 to enter the shrine. The top court also observed that the right to worship by an individual cannot outweigh the rights of a religious group.
