RCF Kapurthala manufactures its first 16-car Vande Bharat train rake

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has built its first 16-car Vande Bharat rake, joining the league of units producing India's semi-high-speed trains. The rake features an advanced Alstom propulsion system and was completed on March 31.

RCF Kapurthala Enters Vande Bharat Production

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has manufactured its first 16-car Vande Bharat Chair Car rake, marking its entry into the league of units producing the country's flagship semi-high-speed trains. The rake, equipped with an advanced propulsion system supplied by Alstom, was completed on March 31.

A Leap in 'Make in India' Rail Technology

The upgraded Vande Bharat trainset manufactured at RCF Kapurthala reflects Indian Railways' continued commitment towards innovation, passenger comfort, and world-class train manufacturing standards. According to a press release, the manufacturing journey of the Vande Bharat Chair Cars reflects a major leap in India's railway technological upgradation.

Designed and built indigenously by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the train was developed under the Make in India program. From initial concept and design to prototyping and production, the process showcased India's growing capability in rail technology, culminating in a train that combines speed, efficiency, and passenger comfort.

Enhanced Passenger Comfort and Features

Vande Bharat features ergonomically designed reclining seats with ample legroom, large panoramic windows to provide better views and natural lighting and fully air-conditioned coaches to maintain a pleasant temperature throughout the trip. The train has automatic sliding doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and a smooth suspension system that reduces jerks and vibrations, making travel quieter and more relaxing. Together, these features create a premium travel experience focused on safety, comfort, and efficiency.

Vande Bharat's Journey So Far

From a journey which started in 2018 with two Vande Bharat trainsets, a total of 97 Vande Bharat Chair Car trains have been made till now, all from Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.

Government's Vision for Railway Projects

Earlier, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the railway is not a question of politics, but a matter which connects the common citizen with the services which governments can provide.

Addressing the House, the Minister emphasised that it remained the "duty of each and every party, each and every state government" to take proactive steps in ensuring railway projects reached completion so that the country's common citizens received justice.
