Ram Temple Bhoomi Pujan: Uma Bharti decides to not visit temple site after BJP leaders test COVID positive

Synopsis

Uma Bharti has decided against visiting Ayodhya for the Ram Temple’s Bhoomi Poojan on August 5 after several senior leaders of her party have been infected by the coronavirus.

Bhopal: Preparations are underway in Ayodhya for the Bhoomi Poojan (groundbreaking ceremony) of the Ram Temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be doing the Bhoomi Poojan on August 5. But there are more concerns now as Union home minister Amit Shah and other ministers of the BJP have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Now, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has said in a tweet that she will not go to Ayodhya for the Bhoomi Poojan but instead of being at the temple site, she will be present at the banks of river Sarayu.

In a series of tweets on Monday morning (August 3), she expressed her concerns. She wrote that since yesterday when she heard about Shah and other BJP ministers being corona positive, she is worried about the people being present at Ayodhya especially PM Modi. She further wrote that she will leave from Bhopal today. She could meet a corona infected person on her way, so she would stay away from the temple site. She would visit the place after Modi leaves.

She said that she has informed the Ramjanambhoomi Trust officers and the PM  to officially remove her name from the list of invitees to be present for the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony.

On Sunday, Shah tested positive for COVID-19 after which he was admitted to a hospital. Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa, Uttar Pradesh BJP president, and another minister of the Uttar Pradesh government were also found to be positive for the virus. Kamla Rani, a minister in the UP government passed away due to the infection.

A few days back, the priest of the Ram Temple along with several other police officers in Ayodhya had also fallen ill after contracting the infection.
