Ram Rahim Verdict: Haryana, Punjab on high alert ahead of sentencing at 2:30 pm today

Synopsis

Many Dera ashrams have been raided in search of the accused spokesperson who incited hate and unrest. Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh announced that the kin of the dead involved in the unrest will not get any compensation. A sword, a knife, 104 sticks, 48 iron rods, 21 bottles of diesel, petrol and kerosene, besides three axes, sickles, saws and 2,574 lathis have been seized from various Dera ashrams.

Last week had been a difficult one for the Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh belt. Ever since the arrest of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh 'Insaan', the entire region has been under siege by the Dera followers. While damaging public properties is one thing, the unaccountable loss of personal life is another thing that have been bothering the region.

The situation continues to grow even more tense, ahead of the sentencing today at 2:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Haryana Police on Sunday booked five spokespersons of the outfit on charges of sedition and instigating mob violence in Panchkula that resulted in the death of 38 people after the self-styled was convicted of rape on Friday. Raids were conducted to hunt for Dr Aditya Inssan, Dhiman Insaan, Pawan Insaan, Dilawar Insaan and Mohinder Insaan, apart from sanitising close to 103 'naam charcha ghars' of the outfit.

The items that were recovered from the sanitisation process included a sword, a knife, 104 sticks, 48 iron rods, 21 bottles of diesel, petrol and kerosene, besides three axes, sickles, saws and 2,574 lathis. Apart from that, Panchkula police also recovered a fire tender tanker comprising chemical, instead of water. Police is suspecting that the chemical would have been used for making petrol bombs. While investigating the tanker, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) BS Sandhu said that the chemical had a neutral pH value and was not inflammable. Inside reports suggested that luxury vehicles wre also seized by the police.

The DGP further added, "Our priority now is to ensure that law and order is maintained when the sentencing of Ram Rahim takes place tomorrow." Likewise, all roads leading to the Sunaria jail in Rohtak where the Godman has been lodged have been sealed.

Schools and educational institutions in Panchkula, Rohtak, Kaithal, Ambala, Bhiwani and Fatehabad districts of Haryana will continue to remain closed. Train services in Punjab and Haryana will were restored on Sunday, except in the Delhi-Rohtak-Bhatinda section. Mobile internet also continues to be suspended till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in an exemplary move, the Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh said that the kin of the dead involved in the unrest will not be getting any compensation. Instead, a list of damaged property will be handed over to the High Court for recovery of the compensation from the Dera ashrams. Modi, in his monthly radio programme 'Mann ki Baat' said, "No one has the right to take the law into one’s own hands in the name of personal beliefs... Neither this country nor any government would tolerate those who take the law into their own hands — whether it is a person or group... the guilty will unquestionably be punished.”

The assets of the Dera ashrams have been seized, following Punjab and Haryana court's order. Till now, 45 preventive arrests have been made and 23 FIRs have been registered so far.
