Private hospital nurse arrested for carrying out illegal abortion

The accused Anamika was nabbed after police spread a net to get proof of the activities in her quarter. A decoy patient was made to visit her at the staff quarters where she was made to believe that the latter wanted an abortion. Instead of reporting the case to the health officials, the nurse asked her to come to the staff quarters for the procedure at around 9 am on Sunday and charged her Rs 10,000.

A nurse, working at a private hospital has been arrested from her quarter for alleged illegal termination of pregnancies. The accused Anamika was nabbed after police spread a net to get proof of the activities in her quarter. A decoy patient was made to visit her at the staff quarters where she was made to believe that the latter wanted an abortion. The patient told her that she was three-months pregnant and that she wanted to terminate the pregnancy because she came to know that she was carrying a baby girl.

Instead of reporting the case to the health officials, the nurse asked her to come to the staff quarters for the procedure at around 9 am on Sunday. When the decoy reached her residence with a relative, she was charged Rs 10,000 for the procedure. The nurse, initially, grew suspicious and told the patient that she should accompany her to Sampla for the procedure. However, when the latter insisted that it would be difficult for her to return home after the procedure, Anamika agreed to do the procedue at her residence.

When Anamika started the procedure by inserting pills inside the decoy , the PCPNDT (pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique) team, including the drugs control officer Amandeep Chauhan, deputy civil surgeon Dr Saryu Sharma, secretary (Red Cross) Shyam Sunder and police, raided the premises and recovered four empty strips of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits and seized market currency note. 

Meanwhile, Anamika denied all charges and said that she was being implicated. Inspector Narender Singh, SHO, Bhondsi police station said, "She has been booked under sections 5 and 6 of the MTP Act. She was sent to judicial custody."
