Partha Chatterjee sacked from all ministries over SSC recruitment scam

Synopsis

The call for Chatterjee's dismissal came as the opposition parties, the BJP and CPI(M), criticised the TMC for failing to move against him despite significant sums of money being found in properties connected to him.

Following his arrest in the case involving the school employment fraud, Partha Chatterjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was dismissed from the Bengal cabinet. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting presided over by Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal. He held three portfolios - Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Enterprise; Ministry for Information Technology and Electronics; Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs - in the Mamata cabinet. All three portfolios are now with the Chief Minister

The call for Chatterjee's dismissal came as the opposition parties, the BJP and CPI(M), criticised the TMC for failing to move against him despite significant sums of money being found in properties connected to him. The public's assessment of the recovery of cash and gold has TMC leaders worried. Wednesday, Ghosh said that Chatterjee had brought "disgrace" to the party and "shame to all of us."

The chief minister recently said that even if a minister is proven guilty, she would not spare him. Following the seizure of Rs 21 crore in unaccounted-for cash from Arpita Mukherjee's house in Kolkata on July 23, Chatterjee and his close aide were both placed under custody. The dismissal occurred shortly after the Enforcement Directorate reportedly found five kg of gold jewellery and another Rs 29 crore in cash in a second apartment she owned. After the 18-hour raid, officials from the central agency departed this second flat in Kolkata's Belgharia neighbourhood early this morning with 10 trunks of cash. According to sources, ED employees employed three note-counting devices.
