Pakistan shows Red Fort in Lahore at Chinese event, says it was a goof-up

In a major gaffe by Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO), it showed a picture of Red Fort in Delhi and claimed it to be Shalimar Gardens of Lahore.

The SCO organised an event to welcome two new members, India and Pakistan. Both the countries showcased their rich culture and history before the gathering including the structures constructed by Mughal ruler Shah Jahan. Kazakhstan showcased the legacy of Timur, regarded as an ancestor of the Mughals.

The event was attended by officials from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. 
According to a report by the Times of India, Pakistan showcased a picture of the Red Fort with the Indian flag on it and claimed that it was the Shalimar Gardens in Lahore. It declared the structure to be one of the finest from the Mughal civilisation that reached its height during Shah Jahan’s reign. Pakistan also exhibited pictures of Mohenjo Daro.

Incidentally, India too showcased the Red Fort as a mark of the Mughal’s legacy in India along with the Taj Mahal. Talking about the Taj Mahal, the Indian exhibit described it as an immense mausoleum of white marble, built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife. 

A Pakistani woman attending the event said that this is a goof up and that Indians and Pakistanis are friends. India's Ambassador to China Vijay Gokhale participated in the event, and so did his Pakistani counterpart Masood Khalid.
