Over 480 AIIMS Delhi healthcare workers test positive for COVID-19

New Delhi: Over 480 healthcare workers in Delhi's prestigious AIIMS hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The cases include 19 doctors and 38 nurses. 

According to NDTV, among  the infected doctors, two are faculty members and the rest are residents. Apart from this, 74 security staff, 75 hospital attendants, 54 sanitation staff and 14 laboratory technicians and OT staff have been infected.

AIIMS was shut for the first time in history in March. The hospital's Trauma Centre has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 facility as the infection started spreading in Delhi.

Meanwhile, all persons arriving in Delhi must undergo home quarantine for seven days.

The  Delhi government announced on Wednesday that every person arriving in the city by train, bus or flight will have to undergo mandatory home quarantine for seven days, amid a surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital.

Delhi is the third worst-hit state in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in terms of having the maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country. The Union Territory currently has over 23,645 confirmed cases including 13,497 active cases, 9,542 recovered and 606 deaths.
