
Six Indian states - Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Punjab - celebrate their formation day on November 1.
PM Modi took to Twitter to wish the Indian states for their formation day wishing them happiness, prosperity, all-round development and appreciating them for the beauty of their state and the contribution made by the state towards the Indian economy.
Karnataka
November 1, 2019, is celebrated as Kannada Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day. Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973and this year the state celebrates its 64th Rajyotsava. Known for its vibrancy, red and yellow flags are displayed around the corner in every street amidst much pomp and splendour.
Kerala
It's the 62nd Kerala Piravi Dinam. This day marks the birth of the state of Kerala in India. Kerala was created on November 1, 1956. Prior to Independence, Kerala, known as God’s own country, existed in 3 independent provinces – Malabar, Travancore and Cochin.
Madhya Pradesh
The second largest state of the country by area celebrates its formation day on November 1. The state was formed on November 1, 1957 and was reorganised on November 1, 2000 to create Chhattisgarh state.
Punjab
On November 1, Punjab celebrates its formation day. The Punjab Suba movement was one of the key events that took place during the formation of Punjab in the erstwhile of East Punjab state.
Haryana
Haryana celebrates its formation day on November 1. It was carved out of the former state of East Punjab on November 1, 1966.
Chhattisgarh
The state of Chhattisgarh was carved out of the state of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000. It is one of the fastest developing states, which is celebrating its formation day on November 1 this year.
