No food kits in containment zones: Karnataka HC pulls up ACS for failing to take action against BBMP

After summoning Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and BBMP in related to COVID related public interest litigation, the Karnataka high court pulled up the ACS for failing to take action against the BBMP for defying the court order
Bengaluru: After rapping the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for its inefficiency in managing more than 3,000 coronavirus (COVID-19) containment zones in the city and defying orders passed on the same, the Karnataka high court pulled up Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for failing to take action against the civic agency.
Following this, the ACS tendered an apology before the high court and gave an assurance to the bench comprising Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Alok Aradhe that they (BBMP and government) will correct themselves.
The official also said they were identifying the poor in the containment zones so as to provide them with food packets and essential services. The ACS was quoted as saying, “As of now, we have identified about 10,000 people,” he submitted.
The court asked the ACS why the state remained a silent spectator when the palike brazenly defied the court order and asked why no steps were initiated against the BBMP.
