Synopsis

In a bizarre incident, a newborn baby reportedly survived 2 hours in the sewerage tank after his mother delivered in the toilet unknowingly. A woman in Madhya Pradesh allegedly delivered in a lavatory bowl of a toilet and flushed her down without realising it.

When she complained of immense pain in the abdomen afterwards, 28-year old Papita Gurjar was rushed to the Vijaypur Community Health Centre (CHC) by her family who believed it was the labour pain. When she was being operated for a C-section, the doctors were surprised to discover that her uterus was empty. On further investigation, it was realised that the woman may have delivered in the toilet without realising.

Doctor Ashok Khare, speaking to the media, said that the hospital rushed an ambulance to the patient's house where the baby was discovered by the ambulance driver. The man heard the infant's cries and rescued her from the sewerage tank. The doctors said that although the baby was alive, she was gasping for breath. However, she had survived the 2-hour ordeal in the tank.

The infant was brought to the hospital where she was admitted to neonatal ICU. Meanwhile, the doctors have informed the police about the incident since the incident happened in an area which is infamous for female infanticide. Police is interrogating the parents. What has irked police the most is who cut the umbilical chord of the baby.
