Days after an MBA student was allegedly gang-raped in Mysuru, the University of Mysore has imposed restrictions on the movement of female students on campus after 6.30 pm.

The new restrictions, which reportedly is aimed at the safety of girl students, surprisingly do not apply to male students.

On August 24, a college student was allegedly gang-raped by four men near Chamundi Hills late in the evening.

Following the incident, people have been prohibited from entering Kukkarahalli lake inside the university premises after 6.30 pm.

The controversial order evoked sharp responses on social media.

Mysore University why don’t you get boys and men off the streets after 6:30 pm instead of asking girls to stay in ? Who’s doing the raping here ?

So now like movies of 90's female students of Mysore University will stay under strict wardens and can't go out of hostel after 6 in evening.

Irony dies million times.

Mysore University restricts movement and sitting of women in lake premises from 6:30 pm.

Only Manuvadi government can pass such rules.

I had spent two wonderful years at the University of Mysore with full freedom to roam around the campus without any worry. Sad to see this news.

The circular came close on the heels of controversial remarks made by Karnataka ministers, shaming the victim. Home Minister Araga Jnanendra had questioned the timing of the college student's visit to the deserted site on the outskirts of Mysuru.
