India is today celebrating Vijay Diwas, a day of commemoration and remembrance of the sacrifices of India's brave soldiers and the triumphant win of Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the 1971 war.
On the occasion, MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid his homage to the 1971 bravehearts.
Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory in Indo-Pak War of 1971 and this remains one of the most defining moments in contemporary Indian history.
The war resulted in the unilateral surrender of the Pakistani Army that led to the creation of Bangladesh.

At the end of the 13-day war that was fought on both the eastern and western fronts, Pakistan's Lt Gen Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi surrendered before Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, then commander-in-chief Eastern Command in Dhaka, along with 93,000 Pakistani soldiers and civilian supporters who were taken as Prisoners of War.
