Govt extends ban on pro-Khalistan terrorist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) for another 5 years

Synopsis

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday announced the extension of the ban on the terrorist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), reclassifying it as an unlawful association for an additional five years, effective from July 10, 2024.

The Union Home Ministry has extended the ban on the pro-Khalistan terrorist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) for another five years due to its anti-India activities.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, the Home Ministry reaffirmed that SFJ was declared a banned organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act five years ago, citing its involvement in activities detrimental to India's internal security and integrity.

The ministry noted SFJ's ongoing engagement in anti-national and subversive actions in Punjab and beyond, aimed at undermining India's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ministry highlighted that SFJ is actively promoting and supporting activities aimed at seceding a portion of Indian territory from the Union, backing separatist groups both within India and abroad through actions and statements designed to undermine India's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Given SFJ's involvement in such subversive activities, the Home Ministry extended the ban under the UAPA for another five years, effective from July 10, according to the notification.
