Latur drought update: Second train reaches Marathwada

A second train carrying  about five lakh litres of water  reached Latur in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra on 13 April night.

The special train carrying 10 wagons of water covered a distance of 350 km from Miraj in west Maharastra to Latur.      

"The ten wagons, each with a capacity of around 50,000 litres, were filled with water at Miraj railway station in Sangli district," said the chief spokesperson of Central Railway Narendra Patil.

 The first water train reached Latur on 12 April.

 For the purpose of storage, the district administration storing water in a huge well loacted near the Latur railay station.

Another train consisting 50 wagons is expected to be ready for water loading around April 15, a railway official.

The three districts of Marathwada region – Latur, Osmanabad and Beed is reeling under worst drought in recent times.
