Kolkata Metro services disrupted after woman attempts suicide on tracks

Synopsis

Kolkata Metro services on the North-South line were disrupted for 45 minutes on Sunday after a woman attempted suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Belgachia station.  

Kolkata: Metro services on the North-South line were partially hit for a brief period on Sunday (October 11) morning after a woman attempted suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Belgachia station.

The woman, however, was rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital.

A metro official said, “Metro services were disrupted from 11.35am to 12.20pm today (October 11).”

This was the first suicide attempt in Kolkata Metro since the resumption of services following suspension due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Kolkata metro authorities have informed the police about this incident.

A police officer said, “We have sought CCTV footages from the Metro railway authorities.”
