Kerala to enforce trolling ban from midnight June 8

Deep sea trolling will be banned from midnight of June 8 in Kerala. Fishing boats of Kerala have been asked to return before the ban comes into force and boats from other states have been asked to leave the shore before the ban is in effect

Kochi: Kerala will go on a total ban of deep-sea trolling from midnight on June 8. The minister of fisheries J. Mercykkuttyamma requested the unions and NGOs in the fishing sector to cooperate with the regulation. The fisheries department has requested all the fishing boats of Kerala to return to the shore before the ban starts and all the boats from other states to leave the shore before the same.

20 private boats were rehired for coastal protection and patrolling activities. The petrol bunks that operate in the harbour and landing centres will stay closed from today. The department has requested to reduce the use of small boats as well during the trolling ban. In addition, the Fisheries minister has requested the fishermen to slowly reduce the usage of kerosene-based boats to avoid polluting the sea.
