Kerala Police arrest woman, husband who falsely alleged assault over 'no halal' board

Thushara had put up a 'no halal' board in front of her eatery in Kochi and was charged of assaulting two persons following a clash over the ownership of an eatery.

Kochi: Thushara Nandu Kallayil, aka Thushara Ajith, the woman who sells non-halal food, her husband Ajith Kallayil have been arrested by Kochi Police on Tuesday for allegedly making false allegations. The cops have also arrested two others Appu and Sunil. They were picked up from a hideout at Ponkunnam in Kottayam district during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Thushara had put up a 'no halal' board in front of her eatery in Kochi and was charged of assaulting two persons following a clash over the ownership of an eatery. She hit the headlines when she dramatically came live on Facebook aboard a moving ambulance, claiming to be mercilessly assaulted for putting up a “no halal food” sticker at what was supposed to be her soon-to-be-opened restaurant.

The case against Thushara has been filed under Section 152A (Promoting enmity between different groups), 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident occurred on the night of October 24 when Thushara alleged she was attacked by two men, Nakul S Babu and Manoj for running a non-halal food joint. It all started when Ajith and others attacked Nakul and Manoj with lethal weapons. Thushara then lodged a complaint claiming Nakul and Binoj attacked her and outraged her modesty.

Meanwhile, Nakul had approached the police with a complaint alleging that Thushara and her husband had manhandled them. On investigation, the police found that the allegations levelled by Thushara were baseless.

Further the police added that she added communal colour to the incident to gain media attention claiming the incident happened because of the non-halal board. According to the police, the made-up story was meant to draw media attention and mislead the inquiry against her.
