Kerala News HIGHLIGHTS: A CRPF personnel from Kerala has gone missing after he landed in Assam reportedly on July 2. His wife has lodged a complaint with the Chengannur police.

4.51 PM: Kerala CRPF personnel goes missing in Assam

A CRPF personnel from Kerala's Chengannur has gone missing in Assam. Sonu Krishna (35) left for Assam from Nedumbassery on July 1 after his vacation. It is also reported that Sonu withdrew Rs 5,000 from the ATM near Paltan Bazar railway station. He had also spoken to his wife on the phone around 9 am on July 2. Later, in the evening his phone was switched off.

1.40 PM: Kerala rain update: IMD issues red alert in Idukki, Orange alert in 11 districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its rain alert in Kerala as heavy downpours continue to lash the state on Wednesday (July 5). The IMD has issued a red alert in Idukki and an orange alert in 11 districts including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam have a yellow alert.
 


12.08 PM:  MoS V Muraleedharan likely to replace K Surendran as BJP state president

Ahead of the general elections in 2024, the Central BJP is reshuffling the state presidents with Union Ministers belonging to that particular state. If reports are to be believed, MoS V Muraleedharan will replace the current Kerala BJP president K Surendran. The confirmation of the same is expected by the afternoon.


11.55 AM: Rescue efforts underway for missing grandmother, grandchild

 A grandmother and her grandchild went missing in Kuthirapuzha at Amarambalam close to Nilambur in the Malappuram district. Along with three other family members, they visited the Amarambalam temple.

10.45 AM: IMD revises rain alert in Kerala; Orange alert in 12 districts, yellow alert in two districts

 The IMD has predicted heavy rain in the state today. An orange alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam have been issued a yellow alert.


10.34 AM: Mild earthquake tremors felt in Thrissur

Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Thrissur and adjacent areas of Kallur and Amballur on Wednesday (July 5). Locals said that there was a rumbling sound from the underground. Meanwhile, district Collector V R Krishna Teja said that there is no need for people to worry as tremors below magnitude 3 on the Richter scale is not serious. 


10.24 AM: Heavy rain continues in Kerala; Kallarkutty dam opened in Idukki

Due to heavy rains in Kerala, two shutters of the Kalarkutty dam in Idukki were raised by 15 cm each on Wednesday. Two shutters of the Pambla dams were also opened today. The first shutter was raised by 75 cm and the second shutter by 30 cm. Officials said people on the Periyar coast should remain alert.


9.31 AM: Heavy rains continue to lash Kerala; Cabinet meeting today

As heavy rains continue to lash Kerala, a cabinet meeting will be held today to discuss the measures to be taken against rain-related mishaps. The government has asked the public not to panic and follow the orders accurately.


8.27 AM: Plus One class to begin today amid rainfall in Kerala

Amid heavy downpours, Plus One class will start today in the state. More than three and a half lakh students have got admission to Plus One classes. About 22,145 students have got admission to Vocational Higher Secondary. Application for supplementary allotment vacancies is from 8th to 12th July. Children are not required to attend schools in districts where District Collectors have declared a holiday due to rain.


8.15 AM: Heavy rain batters Kerala; Orange alert in 12 districts today

Kerala is witnessing heavy rainfall in the last 48 hours. The IMD has announced an orange alert in 12 districts except Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. A holiday has been announced in six districts for educational institutions including Kasaragod, Kannur, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Kottayam.
