A man set fire to a panchayat office in Malappuram after his name was allegedly not enrolled in the Life Mission scheme. He used petrol to set ablaze the office and the computers were gutted. No one suffered injuries. He sustained minor burns on his hand and has been taken to police custody.
2.35 PM: SC to hear plea to euthanise stray dogs in Kerala on July 12
The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to consider a petition considering the stray dog incidents in Kerala. The top court termed the death of Nihal, an 11-year-old body in Kannur as unfortunate. In light of the rise in violent assaults by stray dogs in Kannur, the district panchayat requested permission to euthanise suspected rabid dogs and very dangerous dogs. The top court has scheduled the interlocutory application (IA) for July 12, 2023
12.36 PM: Kerala Olympic Association selects HS Prannoy as 'Sportsman of the Year'
The Kerala Olympic Association has named noted Indian shuttler HS Prannoy "Sportsman of the Year." The recognition consists of a citation, a memento, and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh. The Thiruvananthapuram native Prannoy is now placed ninth in the BWF World Rankings.
10.41 AM: Fever cases in Kerala likely to rise, says Health Minister Veena George
Health Minister Veena George has urged the public to exercise extreme caution as there are chances of fevers like flue, dengue and rat fever to surge in the state. A total of 32 people have died of contagious disease till now. Last day, over 2000 people sought treatment for fever in the Malappuram district alone.
9.00 AM: After SFI leader, KSU convenor's degree certificate found to be fake
After SFI leader Nikhil Thomas, now Kerala Students' Union (KSU) convenor Ansil Jaleel's degree certificate has also been found to be fake. Exam controller Gopakumar verified the registration number on his B.Com degree certificate and the VC's signature and it turned out to be fake. Ansil, though, has asserted his innocence and denied any wrongdoing. He denies being involved in the creation of the fake certificate and has filed a complaint with the police station demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
8.39 AM: Congress veteran and former minister Dr M A Kuttappan passes away
Former Minister and veteran Congress leader Dr M.A. Kuttappan passed away on Tuesday. The Congress leader was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 76. From 2001 to 2004, he was A.K. Antony's cabinet's Minister for the Welfare of the Backward and Scheduled Communities. Vandoor in 1980, Chelakkara in 1987, Njarakkal in 1996, and the Kerala Assembly four times each.
